Meet Mike Sonke

About Mike

Mike Sonke was raised between Ripon and Manteca, where agriculture, water, and community have been part of his life from the beginning. Today, he is a local farmer, agricultural businessman, and mechanical engineer whose work has kept him closely connected to the farms and families of the South San Joaquin Irrigation District.

Mike operates orchard operations of his own and works directly with area growers through Star Nut Co. That experience has given him a practical understanding of the importance of reliable water, well-maintained infrastructure, and responsible management of the resources on which local agriculture and communities depend.

Water management also has deep roots in Mike’s family. Combined with his engineering background and years working in agriculture, that history has shaped the practical, hands-on approach he brings to solving problems.

Mike’s involvement in the community extends beyond agriculture. He serves on the Ripon Christian Schools Board and on Almond Board committees, contributing his time and experience to local education and the agricultural industry.

Mike and his wife, Chrissy, a fish biologist, raised their three children locally. For Mike, serving on the SSJID Board would be another opportunity to invest in the community that has shaped his family, his career, and his life.
